Client News – Two Local Charities Set to Benefit from ICS’ £5,000 Fundraising Drive

Our fabulous client ICS has recently announced some fantastic news…

The team at the Lancaster-based contractor accountancy firm is aiming to raise £5,000 over the next 12 months for their new charity initiative. The total amount raised will then be split equally between two wonderful local charities that were chosen following a staff survey – CancerCare and Defying Dementia.

John Lyon, ICS managing director, said: “There are so many fantastic charities doing phenomenal work in the Lancashire and Cumbria area, but CancerCare and Defying Dementia really resonated with the ICS team. Sadly, like many people, some of our staff members have had personal experiences with cancer and dementia, so we found that these two charities were the ones particularly close to our hearts.”

A number of fundraising activities have now been planned over the coming months, including a quiz night, bake sale and spin-a-thon. During Dementia Awareness Week, from 15 – 21 May, staff members wore yellow to mark the week and collected £91 in donations.

Next weekend, a team of ICS staff will be putting their best foot forward when they take part in CancerCare’s Cross Bay Challenge. They will walk a total of seven miles, from Gibraltar Farm Campsite in Silverdale, crossing over from Lancashire to the finish line in Cumbria, at the Flookburgh foreshore.

John added: “Since officially announcing our charity initiative, the whole ICS team has been extremely excited about our fundraising mission. We are aiming to raise £5,000 in total, but I know that many of the team are confident we will raise even more! The Cross Bay Challenge is our second event in a busy calendar of activities over the course of the summer, and we are aiming to raise as much money as possible for these two amazing local charities that do incredible work in Lancaster and the surrounding areas.”

Neil Townsend, Chief Executive Officer of CancerCare, said: “CancerCare is delighted that the staff of ICS have pledged to raise money to help support the work of our charity. Established 33 years ago, CancerCare has grown into a leading charity that supports people of all ages and their families who are affected by the emotional and physical impacts of a cancer diagnosis. Working from two centres in Lancaster and Kendal, we remain committed to serving our local communities and every penny raised is spent on these vital services.”

Laura Slater, Defying Dementia Community Fundraiser, said: “The Defying Dementia team would like to thank ICS for choosing us as one of their charities for the year. Local support is key to our campaign; with the help from ICS we will be able to raise even more awareness and funds for our neurodegenerative research at Lancaster University. Most people will experience the effects of dementia at some point in their lives, whether that be through family members with dementia or having the disease themselves, and the money that is raised from ICS will go to helping us carry out important pre-clinical trials for a drug that will hopefully stop Alzheimer’s disease in its tracks.”

Here at Bloomin’ Creative, we think that what ICS is doing is bloomin’ marvellous and we want to wish them lots of luck for the Cross Bay Challenge next weekend!

So far, the fundraising drive has been featured in the Lancaster Guardian and Westmorland Gazette, among others. If you are a journalist and would like more information about ICS and their fantastic charity initiative – just drop me a line at and I will send you the latest press releases and add you to our media list.
