A Cumbrian dog-friendly inn has been revealed as one of the UK’s best destinations for those wanting to enjoy a getaway with their four-legged friends.
The Sun Inn, in Kirkby Lonsdale, was recently announced as a finalist for ‘Dog-Friendly Accommodation of the Year’ in The i Paper’s Staycation Awards 2019.
The awards were launched to recognise the growing demand for top-class staycations in the UK and the country’s best-loved holiday spots. Organisers received over a thousand nominations from both the public and businesses. Following two weeks’ deliberation of the nominations, the panel of nine judges selected the finalists in each of the 17 categories.
The Staycation Awards ceremony takes place on Thursday, 21st November, at St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London, where The One Show and Countryfile presenter, Matt Baker, will announce the winners.
Iain Black, who owns the Sun Inn with his wife, Jenny, said: “We pride ourselves on offering our guests a memorable experience when it comes to getaways with their four-legged friends. We’re a nation of dog lovers, and we believe that you don’t have to put your dog in the kennels to enjoy a nice getaway – you can bring them with you so they can enjoy a lovely holiday too!
“Every aspect of the Sun Inn as a restaurant, bar and boutique inn has been created with our dog-friendly offering in mind. Well-behaved pooches are more than welcome in our bar area, where they can enjoy special homemade dog biscuits. We also have a dog-friendly dining area next to our restaurant, where visitors can dine with their best friend by their side. Overnight guests receive a complimentary ‘pooch pack’, with a towel, dog bowl, special treat and a dog trail map.”
The Sun Inn supports Animal Rescue Cumbria as its partner charity and has raised more than £600 for the cause through organised sponsored walks, dog biscuit sales and collection boxes.
The popular venue was previously named as one of the top 10 most dog-friendly venues in the UK by Country Life magazine. It also received a Highly Commended award from Visit England’s 2016 Awards for Excellence in the Dog-Friendly Business of the Year category.
