Super evening at CIPR Meet the Media last night 📰
We were the first people to visit Strawberry Fields, a brand new digital hub in Chorley (yes, I had the song on my brain all evening 🍓🎶) The brilliant panel included: 🗞 Michelle Mayman - editor of BBC North West Tonight 🗞 Nicola Adam - group editor at JPI Media 🗞 Richard Slater - publisher of Lancashire Business View 🗞 Luke Beardsworth - editor of Lancs Live 🗞 Iain Lynn - social media editor of JPI Media
It was an evening of really useful insights - not just for PR professionals and fellow journalists - but business owners too.
Here are my key takeaways for any businesses that want to increase their media profile... ✏️ People are nosy by nature. They want to know about people. They want to know their stories. Make sure the heart of any story is about the people. ✏️ The BBC IS looking for good news stories in the Lakes and they WILL cover it if it’s interesting enough. Don’t be afraid to pitch your story. ✏️ Also don’t be afraid to call a newsroom and ask for the best journalist to speak to about your story. A lot of newsrooms are now writing shared content across a number of titles. Finding the relevant journalist is key. ✏️ Different stories are published at different times. For example, business news is best in the morning and light-hearted pieces at the weekend. ✏️ Personal elements - faces and success stories work better than boring numbers, facts and figures.
Thanks to CIPR for a fantastic evening 👍🏼 If any business owners want advice about pitching to the media - drop me a line any time! Danielle@bloomincreative.co.uk
